Martin Amis Hosts Event on Philip Larkin


Professor of Creative Writing Martin Amis will discuss the work and influence of the poet and novelist Philip Larkin, with poets James Fenton and John McAuliffe. Larkin was recently named the greatest post-war English writer by The Times, and was chosen as the nation's best-loved poet in a 2003 survey by the Poetry Book Society. Martin Amis Public Events are presented by the University's Centre for New Writing.

This event will be followed by a Q & A session.

Susan Tomes, piano, James Fenton, poet


A rare opportunity to hear the distinguished poet James Fenton, winner of the 2007 Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry, in collaboration with pianist Susan Tomes. Their programme threads poems and prose between the twelve charming piano pieces of Tchaikovsky's The Seasons, continues with one of Mendelssohn's finest works for solo piano, and concludes with Poulenc's delightful 'Babar the Elephant' for piano and narrator.
